You Are Not Your Job

For our entire lives, most of us identify with our job, our career, our goals, our business, the things we do, the things we dream of, and even our own names. As Alberto Villoldo, one of my teachers, once said: if you introduce yourself to someone, you wouldn’t say, “I’m Jesse,” for example. You’d say, “Hi, my name is….” Because we are not our name.

In this same way, if someone asks about your life, you might be used to describing yourself based on your occupation or primary role in life, such as: “Hi, my name is Jesse and I’m an entrepreneur,” or, “Hi, my name is Jesse and I’m a parent.” But the thing is, you are not your job either, and you are not only a parent in life. These roles do not define you.

But these roles, labels, and identities give us grip because, with millions and billions of options of how to spend our time on Earth, we need something to hold on to – or at least we think we need something to hold on to. This gives meaning to our life – a reason for our existence.

But when we start to identify with the labels, roles, and world around us, we start seeing them as WHO we are. We live in a world where people constantly project their own expectations of life upon us.

It is so easy to be convinced by all these projections and identifications – yet none of them are true. None of them.

This is why it is so important to make the distinction between who we are, and who we are not. It is up to us to decide what is true.

Burn What You Are Not

The best way to decide what is true is to imagine all the roles and identities you have in life as if they are layers you wear, just as a serpent wears its skin. And just as the serpent sheds its skin, you can shed the layers of identity that are weighing you down.

Because it is these layers that are dimming your pure soul – your shining light within. The soul that has descended down to Earth, temporarily visiting your human body for the purpose of healing and exploration.

  • You aren’t an entrepreneur – you are a soul.
  • You aren’t a parent – you are a light being.
  • You aren’t your race/gender/ethnicity – you are pure love.

These labels we falsely identify ourselves with are the layers that suppress our truth. The key is to BURN these layers. BURN what you are not.

“But who am I if I’m not ________?!”

In the face of letting go of our identities, a lot of fear can come up: “But who am I if I’m not an entrepreneur/parent/etc.?”

While it can be frightening to let go of the things that give us grip, it is the only way to find our truth. It is the only way to truly LIVE life to the fullest.

We may fear, “Will the people around me still love me? Will they still want me? And does this mean I need to let go of my business?!”

But this fear doesn’t serve us – it is simply part of our conditioning – a reflection of the ego that only wants control.

Letting go of your identity as an entrepreneur doesn’t mean you are letting go of the people in your life or the career you have built.

“Burning what you are not” simply means that you let go of the conditioning that tricks you into believing that these identities define you. It means letting go of the layers that are keeping you from your core being as a soul that has descended down to this physical body.

The Flow of Energy in the Body

In this episode of The Spiritual Game of Business Podcast, I guide you through an intimate, fireside meditation in which we explore the flow of energy in the body. Below you can find brief descriptions of the key points of that meditation. I highly recommend that you join me by the fire and practice this meditation with me: download here and let me know how you experienced the flow of energy in your body!

The Hidden Life Force Energy

There is a life force energy that lives inside of you that has always been there – an energy that we constantly rule over with the mind, structures we impose on our lives, structures society imposes on us, and the belief systems we are so attached to.

We most often mistake this hidden life force energy for lust and seek sexual satisfaction to release the energy that builds up. When we feel the presence of this life force energy, we immediately jump to ways of exiting it from the body. For many people, such a release will look like masturbation or seeking a sexual experience with someone else.

But release is not the only way we can respond to the life force energy – there is another way!

Download this special Fireside Meditation and explore this process with me by the fire.

The Chakras and the Wiracocha

The human body has energy centers known as “chakras.” These chakras are located along the center of the body, beginning at the torso and working up the spine until the crown of the head. There are a total of seven chakras in the human body.

The first chakra, or the “Root chakra,” is located at the base of the spine near the genitals. This is the origin of the life force energy.

Following the Root chakra are six other chakras that climb up the spine:

  1. The Root Chakra
  2. The Sacral Chakra
  3. The Solar Plexus Chakra
  4. The Heart Chakra
  5. The Throat Chakra
  6. The Third Eye Chakra
  7. The Crown Chakra

Each chakra has its own energetic significance and, in this episode’s Fireside Meditation, we explore how to channel our life force energy through these chakras.

Just above your crown chakra, there is a ball of light that the Q’ero shamans refer to as the wiracocha. Similar to the ball of light that you see above the head of the spiritually enlightened, depicted in paintings of all faiths, spiritualities, and religions.

This ball of light hovers above the enlightened ones and represents that which connects us all. The energy that has always been there, and always will be.

In this episode of The Spiritual Game of Business Podcast, I guide you in a special Fireside meditation in which we explore the Wiracocha together. Download here and join me by the fire.

Spiritual Practices Exist to be our Guide

The reason we call it a spiritual practice is because it is not something we learn or read from a book – it is something we practice.

If we would observe the old tribes still living in the Amazonian rainforest, or the monks living in the mountains, we can observe that for them, life is about pure, simple existence. The simple existence of our soul in this body of flesh and blood, and the love we have to share.

Unconditionally loving someone for their soul and all that they come with: their past, their fears, their struggles, their goals. Finding that joy and simple connection that comes from being together, sharing our love, sharing our food, and sharing our time here.

Spiritual practices are all methods of finding this simple truth – finding our own existence. All we need to do is remind ourselves of this simple truth.

Join me by the Fire

We are simply here in this body of flesh and blood, understanding that we are a soul that brings this body to life. This is an invitation to you to join me by the fire and explore the innermost depths of your Sexuality, Energy, and Enlightenment.
